What is the University System of Maryland at Hagerstown?
The University System of Maryland at Hagerstown (USMH) is a regional higher-education
center located in downtown Hagerstown. USMH operates under the auspices of
the University System of Maryland (USM). The following institutions offer
degrees at USMH: Frostburg State University; Towson University; University
of Maryland, College Park; University of Maryland University College and
Salisbury University.
What academic programs do these institutions offer?
USM institutions currently offer 12 undergraduate and 7 graduate degrees
onsite.
Baccalaureate programs include: accounting, business administration, information
systems management, investigative forensics, early childhood education, nursing,
criminal justice, cybersecurity, social science, social work, sociology and liberal studies.
Graduate programs include: business administration, elementary and secondary
education, nursing, social work, and engineering.
From whom do students attending classes at USMH receive their degrees?
Participating students will be admitted to, taught by and will receive their
degrees from the accredited University System of Maryland institution that
provides their selected program.
Can I receive on-site advising?
Universities offering programs at USMH provide full- or part-time on-site counselors.
Each participating university has a counseling office at the USMH center.
What library services are provided at USMH?
USMH students are able to search the online library catalog and have items
delivered directly to USMH from any of the other USM libraries. There is
a wide range of materials available through the University System of Maryland
online catalog. USMH students can access any of their home school’s
databases through the USMH Library’s computers. USMH students can use
the library’s laser printer and copy machine free of charge for class-related
functions. A librarian is on site to assist with questions during library
hours: Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00
p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
How do I apply?
To attend classes at the University System of Maryland at Hagerstown, you must
apply for admission to one of our participating Maryland universities. The
university to which you receive acceptance and enroll is considered your “home
school.” You can apply online or pick up an application from one of
our on-site advisors.
What computer facilities are available at USMH?
State-of-the-art computer labs are available in several locations. Students
are provided with access to the Internet, online services and a variety of
software programs. In addition, USMH students have free wireless network
access throughout the facility.
Am I eligible for financial aid?
Students attending classes at USMH are eligible for the same financial aid
and scholarships available to students attending the home institutions. In
addition, there is scholarship money available specifically for students
attending USMH.
Where do I park while attending classes at USMH?
The City of Hagerstown parking deck is conveniently located adjacent to the
plaza entrance of the USMH building. The cost to park in
the deck is $1.00/hour - $6.00/day. Parking passes may be purchased from the City of Hagerstown for $60 per month. Parking in all downtown areas is free on Saturdays. There is metered parking,
$.25/hour with a two-hour limit, on the street in the USMH area.
