Inmates Display Artwork in USMH Library

Jewelry boxes and model cars made out of popsicle sticks line the shelves in the University System of Maryland at Hagerstown (USMH) Library while colorful paintings of landscapes and nature fill the walls. The unique artwork is courtesy of inmates at the Maryland Correctional Institution and will be displayed until July 4.

About 40 inmates created the artwork using acrylic paints, pastels, colored pencils and other materials. The Herald-Mail covered the art show in its Saturday, June 14 edition. Click here for a link to the article.

Rosetta Stone Language Software Now Available in USMH Library

University System of Maryland at Hagerstown (USMH) students, faculty and staff now have the key to unlock the mystery of learning a new language. The USMH Library recently acquired The Rosetta Stone language-learning software.

The software is available for use at any of the library computers, and once registered, users can access it from any computer via a login and password. USMH Director of Library Services Jennifer Clement encourages students to visit the library to get registered. “It is very easy to set-up an account and it is my hope that students, faculty and staff use and enjoy the Rosetta Stone software. It is innovative software that immerses the user into the world of language.”

The software uses the principle of unlocking the understanding of new languages via immersion and interactive technology. The software has voice recognition capabilities.
