Annual USMH Scholarship Fundraiser a Great Success
HAGERSTOWN -- The University System of Maryland at Hagerstown (USMH) hosted its annual scholarship fundraiser, Feaste at Yuletide, on December 7th at Bulls and Bears Restaurant and Potomac Walk in downtown Hagerstown.
The renaissance-themed dinner featured a guitar and flute duo as well as a strolling madrigal choir.
All proceeds from the event go into the USMH Scholarship Fund. Approximately 150 people attended the gala and $30,000 was raised. This year, 25 students received a total of $70,000 from the scholarship funds.
The University System of Maryland Chancellor, Dr. Robert Caret, spoke about the growth and prosperity of the System and the role that USMH plays in the region, both in educational and economic improvement. USMH Executive Director, Mark Halsey, noted a positive trend in graduation rates among students who attend community colleges initially and transfer to a Maryland state institution. USMH boasts a greater average rate of completion than those who attend a four-year university.
USMH thanks local businesses, organizations, and members of the community for their generous donations.
