Food Fight!

Students, faculty and staff at the University System of Maryland at Hagerstown (USMH), in collaboration with Salisbury University's Community Health program and Micah's Backpack of Washington County, collected and delivered almost 450 pounds of food for the more than 1,000 children served by the program.

The universities housed at USMH competed in an annual "food fight" to collect non-perishable food items in support of Micah's Backpack of Washington County. Salisbury University came in first place with a whopping 173 pounds of food donated. Micah's Backpack provides meals for school-aged children to take home throughout the week. Without the support of Micah's Backpack, these children would go hungry. A recently shared story from the organization is that of a preschooler who asks the teacher every day "is today a food day?"

The food items collected this year amounted to the most food ever collected at USMH.
